n In partnership with the Video Game Clubs of America, the library is hosting a gaming club from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, March 10, 17, 24 and 31. From tabletop board games, card games, Nintendo Switch and more, each week will be something different. Call 814-946-0417, ext. 125, to register.
Paws 2 Read will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, March 9. This program partners the library’s youth room with the local humane society where kids practice reading aloud to furry friends, boosting their confidence and literacy skills while giving adoptable pets some much-needed love and attention. LEGO Cclubs will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 9, and Thursday, March 12. This program is geared toward children ages 4 and older. Monthly registration and a library card is required. Call 814-946-0417, ext. 123, to sign up.
n “See You @ the Symphony” will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, for children ages 3-6. Join members of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra as they introduce young patrons to the beauty and joys of the symphony in this hands-on program. n Friends of the AAPL Puzzle Swap will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 10. All ages are welcome. Bring a gently used puzzle with all the pieces and swap it with someone else. No registration necessary.
n CD Weaving Take & Make will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, while supplies last. Stop by the library adult circulation desk and pick up a craft to make at home. Learn basic weaving techniques using a CD and yarn. This free kit is available for adult patrons with a Blair County Library Card. No registration required.
n Coding Root Robots for Teens will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 11. Join us after school to play with Root Robots. These creative coding robots can draw, play music, move and light up with simple commands. Learn coding while having fun with robots and your friends. Ages 12-18. n Folded Book Art Pigs will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14. Children ages 6-12 will fold the pages of old books into pigs. Call 814-946-0417, ext. 123, to register.
n Friends of the Library will hold Game Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in the Library Board Room. No registration is required. It is for ages 12 and older.
n Intro to Spanish will be held Friday, March 20, with ages 2-6 at 10:30 a.m. and ages 6-12 at 1:30 p.m. This ongoing program introduces children to Spanish language and culture through songs, stories and playful activities. n Cow Check-In Storytime & Craft will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 20. The library’s virtually-adopted calf is growing. Join us for an update on her progress, as well as a fun storytime and craft. Registration is not required.

n Brain Games at the Library: Where Fun Meets Logic — Blokus will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 23. A fun, hands‒on program for school‒age kids. n Marvelous Machines: Hot Air Balloon Hullabaloo will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. Explore the principles that get hot air balloons off the ground and see if you can achieve lift-off yourself. This is for grades 1-5. Call 814-946-0417, ext. 123, to register.
n Pokemon TCG Day for Teens will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25. Join us at the AAPL and start your own pokemon tcg journey. Learn strategy, game sense and deck building all while taking yourself to victory. Never played before? No problem. Starter decks will be available to borrow, and instruction provided to jump right into the action. No registration required just show up and play.
n Stuffed Animal Sleepover: Bring your stuffy to the library Youth Room no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26. Your stuffed animal will enjoy an entire day of special activities and fun library hijinks on Friday. Stop in after 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, to pick up your friend and see what silly adventures they had. Each stuffed friend will come back with a book chronicling their adventures for their human. No pre-registration is required.
n Join the library for an Earth Day celebration at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, in the Youth Room as we team up with AJ Kurtz and the Blair County Conservation District to explore composting, soil health and beginner‒friendly gardening. n “Hamilton” will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, March 27, in the library theater. Experience the revolutionary story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton in this filmed version of the Broadway play. Registration is required. n The Great Chicken Hatch will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 30. Join us for a hands‒on program all about welcoming new life into the library as we learn how to set up an incubator for chicken eggs. Kids will explore what an incubator does, the supplies needed to keep eggs warm and safe, and how to choose the right eggs for hatching. n Mahjong Club meets from 11 a.m.. to 2 p.m. Thursdays in the library. All adult patrons are welcome to come in to play. No registration required.
n Chess Club meets from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays. All are welcome to come in to play chess. Meet at the front tables on the first floor. No registration necessary. Anyone under the age of 16 needs to be accompanied by their legal guardian.
n Families of young children are invited to check out the library’s free educational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together.
