Hollidaysburg library sets Feb. programs

Women Writers Book Club, teen cooking club set

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities and resources for February.

The library will be closed Feb. 19, 20 and 21 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

n The library is partnering with TMobile to bring internet access to library patrons through the lending of Hotspots. Hotspots check out for a 14-day period and may be used to connect up to 15 devices. For detailed information, call the library at 814-695-5961.

n Storytimes will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and 6:30 p.m. Thursdays. Join the library for stories, songs and a lot of fun. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. No signup is necessary.

n BookBabies Storytimes will be held at 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This is a “lap-sit” program of lively songs, rhymes and stories for children ages birth through 18 months and their caregivers.

n Legos in the Library will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. This program is intended for ages 6 to 12.

n Friday ROCKS will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. This drop-in program is for all ages. Paint rocks to place in public places for finders to keep or re-hide.

n Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at 11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome. Call Harriett at 814-693-9292 with questions.

n Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Bring your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults. Call Janice at 814- 695-2281 for more information.

n Allegheny Essential Oils Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2. Visit the club page on Facebook for more information.

n Computer Talks will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 2 and 16. Email your questions and requests to schedule a meeting to corporal99@gmail.com.

n Mystery & Mayhem Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8. The group will discuss “River Road” by Carol Goodman. All are welcome to attend, no signup is necessary.

n Inspirational Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. This month’s book selection is “Aiming for Love” by Mary Connealy. All are welcome to attend, no signup is necessary.

n Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16. The group will discuss “Becoming” by Michelle Obama. This is a new book club for 2022. n Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Community Room. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Studies show reading to animals is the perfect way to help your child feel less anxious and improve their reading skills. Children ages 5 and older are welcome with their caregivers.

n Breast Cancer Survivor Support Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23. This group is facilitated by Lisa Koncz, formerly of the American Cancer Society, and was created to support those within the community who have been touched by breast cancer as well as their caregivers. All are welcome to attend.

n Cravable Creations, a new monthly Cooking Club for teens, will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24. Penn State Extension Nutrition Educator Jessie Kester will teach hands-on cooking techniques to teens in grades six through 12. This month’s recipe will be a classic chickpea hummus plus a delectable chocolate dessert hummus. There will be a $5 fee per participant to cover the cost of ingredients. n Best of Times Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24. This month’s book is “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. All are welcome, no signup is necessary.

n The Friends of the Library will hold its annual Wine & Trivia Night at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at the American Legion Post 516 Social Hall at Legion Park, Hollidaysburg. Tickets are $30 per person and include a dinner buffet, dessert, wine, beer, soft drinks and trivia games. Only 96 tickets will be sold. Must be 21 or older to attend.

n The Friends of the Library are selling one-pound bags of pecans for $10 available at the library.
