SAMA Bedford offering summer painting, drawing classes

BEDFORD — The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, 137 E. Pitt St., is offering a series of drawing and painting classes for a variety of skill levels and interests.

Registration is required, visit www.sama-art.org for more information and registration. The classes are:

– Learn to Draw and Paint, Mondays and Wednesdays, June 24-July 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. This is a contour drawing, shading and color theory class taught by Karen Samanek. It covers the basics of art to get you started drawing pencil drawings. Recommended for ages 7 and up. There is no cost associated with this event. Please consider making a $25 donation to benefit the Bedford Arts Festival and SAMA.

– Oil Painting Master Class, Monday-Friday, July 8-12, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Artist Geraldine Dobos will teach how to capture the likeness of a historically costumed live model. She will start with a reductive method of freshly toned canvas and rubbing out lights before adding dark value. Learn about visual relationships, anatomy and structure of the head and body as masses. Periodic demonstrations and one-on-one time with each student over the course of each day. Space is limited to 15 and is for ages 13 and up. Cost $625 with $100 deposit option.

– Adult Drawing Workshop Series, Aug. 10-Sept. 21, and Sept. 25 — An introductory experience in making art through drawing media; incorporating art elements, principles and art rules for individual creative development. In these drawing classes, taught by Stan Snyder students will immerse themselves in the world of visual expression, exploring various techniques and mediums. Students learn foundational skills such as line, shape, shading, and perspective, gradually building their proficiency and confidence. Whether sketching still life, capturing the human form, or experimenting with abstract concepts, each session offers a new opportunity for artistic growth and discovery. Cost $5 per class or $12 for all three classes in the workshop series.

– Children’s Drawing Workshop, Saturday, Sept. 7, from noon to 2 p.m. In this drawing class, students ages 7-10 will explore various techniques and mediums. Instructor Stan Snyder teaches foundational skills such as line, shape, shading, and perspective, gradually building their proficiency and confidence. Cost $5 per person.
