Altoona’s Noce takes fourth at Big Valley cross country meet

REEDSVILLE -- Bedford's Chloe May won the Big Valley Invitational's varsity girls cross country race in 17:48, and State College's Luke Bradbury took home the boys title in 15:01 on Saturday at Indian Valley Elementary School.

Altoona's Ashlyn Noce was fourth overall and second among 3A girls runners with a time of 18:46, and her teammate Emma Etters was eighth overall in 19:23.

Julia Van Kleunen was 13th for Hollidaysburg in 20:06.

Blake Pennington was 26th in 20:54 for Bellwood-Antis ahead of Hollidaysburg's Kaitlyn Etters (21:06, 28th) and Sophia Fiore (21:17, 30th).

On the boys side, Hollidaysburg's Reuben Manfred was the top local finisher with an eighth-place time of 16:11. Noah Knobloch, the returning District 6 Class 1A champion from Bishop Carroll Catholic, was 10th in 16:29, and Mason Kephart was 12th for the Golden Tigers in 16:43.

Seth Lieb was 14th in 17:01, and Archie Glover was 16th in 17:06 for Altoona.

Williamsburg's Tanner Ross was 26th in 17:33. Nolan Westover was 74th overall for Portage but 14th in 1A in 19:07.

Tyrone's top finisher was 45th-place Brenson Davis in 18:16.

Charlie Fiore of Hollidaysburg won the middle school boys race in 10:22, and Leo Ingham of Altoona was third with a time of 10:35. Eli Gouse of Portage was fifth overall with a time of 10:46.

NBC triumphs

NEW PARIS -- Asher Reffner had a hat trick to lead Northern Bedford to a 6-2 win over Chestnut Ridge in high school boys soccer on Saturday.

The Lions led 2-1 at halftime. The Panthers also got two assists from Jaidyn Shaulis.

SHIKELLAMY -- Andrew Burke had four goals and two assists for Altoona in its 11-0 win over Shikellamy on Saturday in high school boys soccer.

Altoona goes 3-9

CAMP HILL -- The Altoona girls volleyball team went 3-9 in pool play at the Trinity Rocks Varsity Volleyball Tournament on Saturday and did not qualify for the playoffs.

Altoona topped Greencastle Antrim, 25-20, 25-20 and Berks Catholic, 25-22 but lost to West Shore Christian, 25-14, 25-14, Trinity, 25-18, 25-9, Palmyra, 27-25, and Greencastle Antrim in the afternoon pool, 25-12.

Selena Lopez-Oakes had 31 assists, five aces, two kills and a block. Ava Miller led the Lady Spikers with 11 kills. Brynn Daniel had 16 digs and nine kills, and Claire Betar finished with 20 digs and nine aces.

Panthers cruise

ALEXANDRIA -- Northern Bedford shut out Juniata Valley, 39-0, in a junior varsity football game on Saturday with the help of two touchdown runs and two touchdown passes to Eli Dutchcot and Waylon Fluke from Shawn Schleinkofer.

Kollin Brennan and Brady Black added touchdown runs for the Black Panthers.
