Voters oust C-K board VP

Repko falls to newcomer Claar-Gill

The vice president of the Claysburg-Kimmel School Board was defeated in Tuesday night’s primary election.

Shelda Repko lost to newcomer Amy Claar-Gill, who carried both the Republican and Democratic tickets in Kimmel Township.

Board member Mandi Daugherty finished second in both parties and will join Claar-Gill on the ballot in the fall election as the top two advance.

Claar-Gill had 146 votes on the Republican side and 78 on the Democratic. Daugherty followed with 85 and 45, respectively, followed by Repko’s 60 and 29.

Daugherty was grateful for the support.

“It’s been an honor serving on the board, and I would love to continue to serve,” said Daugherty, who replaced Jonathan Burkett a year ago after Burkett resigned to run for Kimmel Township supervisor. “I feel Claysburg is heading in the right direction, and I’m very excited for things to come.”

Claar-Gill and Repko could not be reached Tuesday night.

In a matchup of current C-K school board members, Roger Knisely defeated Jeremy Knott in the Greenfield 2-3 precincts, winning the Republican ballot, 87-39, and the Democratic ballot, 34-11.

“I’d like to thank all the people that voted for me,” Knisely said. “Jeremy is an excellent school board member. Either way, we’d have been fine.”

Knisely said it’s possible Knott could end up filling an unexpired two-year term, which he’s currently doing until December.

“We both ended up running for the four-year spot,” Knisely, current board treasurer, said. “There is also a two-year unexpired term so there’s a good possibility Jeremy will wind up there anyway.”

Board president Richard Gergely and board member Heidi Kennedy were running for the two C-K board spots from Greenfield Township precinct 1. Kennedy was the top voter getter on both ballots 111-91 on the Republican side and 30-28 on the Democratic ballot.
