Hollidaysburg picks new high school principal

HOLLIDAYSBURG – The Hollidaysburg Area School District has hired Maureen Letcher to replace retiring high school Principal Linda McCall.

Letcher has served the district as junior high school assistant principal for the past four years and prior was the high school principal in the Williamsburg Community School District.

“I’m definitely honored to serve students and the community in this capacity,” she said Wednesday night following the school board vote, which was unanimous.

The board hired Letcher at a salary of $95,000, effective July 1.

Another administrator’s salary was adjusted on Wednesday for taking on duties left by retiring Assistant Superintendent Gary Robinson.

Special Education Director Donna Messner’s salary was approved at $93,174 for taking on some of Robinson’s duties.

“We are taking five central office positions and narrowing them down to three,” next year’s Superintendent Robert Gildea said.

Responsibilities of Robinson and former grant writer and Public Relations Director Linda Russo, who resigned in November, will be delegated to Gildea, Messner and Director of Elementary Curriculum Linda Dobbie.

The board also approved salary and health care changes on Wednesday for all 17 of the district’s administrative staff employees, who will receive 2.1 percent salary increases for the 2013-14 school year but will pay higher health care deductibles effective July 1.

The reduction in district contributions to administrators’ health care costs has negated the salary increases, resulting in a net zero cost increase to the district, Board President Ron Yoder said.

Yoder commended the administration for its willingness to increase their contributions to their health care plan to ease stress on the district’s finances.
