Cargo plane barrels off runway, killing 5

MIAMI -- Authorities say at least five people are dead after an Amazon cargo plane barreled off a Miami airport runway and smashed into cars.

The plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday. Flights were paused at the busy travel hub. Plumes of black smoke poured from the plane.

Residents warned of storm conditions

LIHUE -- Officials in Hawaii are urging residents to prepare for heavy rains and flooding as Hurricane Lowell, a major Category 3 storm, prompted forecasters to issue a tropical storm warning for two islands.

The National Hurricane Center says Kauai and Niihau could experience tropical storm conditions late Monday. The Kauai Emergency Management Agency says residents should be prepared to stay home for several days.

Building collapse in New Delhi kills 1

NEW DELHI -- A building has collapsed in New Delhi, killing at least one person and trapping dozens of others. The five-story structure housed a boys' hostel in Satya Niketan, a densely populated area near a Delhi University campus.

Fire officer Abhilash Malik said about 30 to 40 people remain trapped in the rubble. Lawmaker Anil Sharma said some people have been rescued, while others trapped inside were making phone calls for help.

At least 25 people dead in bus crash

PRAIA -- At least 25 people, mostly teenagers, have died in a traffic accident in Cape Verde, according to local media and officials.

The accident happened Saturday on the Campanas de Cima route in Fogo Island and involved a passenger bus. Several people were also injured.
