Former officer pleads guilty
COLUMBUS -- A former police officer in Ohio has pleaded guilty to reckless homicide four years after fatally shooting a Black man in bed.
Ricky Anderson entered an Alford plea on Wednesday. It acknowledges there was enough evidence for a conviction without admitting guilt. The state dropped a murder charge in exchange.

Two more beluga whales die
CHICAGO -- Two more beluga whales have died at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, including one that was moved in mid-August as part of an international effort to rescue Canada's last captive whales.
The aquarium announced on Wednesday that Rain, a 20-year-old female, was the second whale to die after making the trip to the Chicago facility from a shuttered water park in Ontario last month. The aquarium has accepted 10 beluga whales out of 30.

House candidate gets drug charge
JEFFERSON CITY -- A candidate for the Missouri House has made an initial court appearance on a federal drug charge accusing him of trying to plant cocaine and Adderall on his Republican primary opponent.
Thomas Ross, of Joplin, appeared in court Thursday on a charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. He's accused of asking a campaign manager to plant cocaine and a prescription pill on his opponent, Louise Secker, before the Aug. 4 primary, which Ross narrowly won.

Russian vessel seized
OSLO -- Norwegian authorities have seized a Russian vessel in Svalbard at Ukraine's request, sparking condemnation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A Norwegian court ordered the seizure to help Ukraine's Naftogaz recover a $4.22 billion arbitration award. This stems from Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea and seizure of Ukrainian energy assets.

Police seek indictment of K-pop mogul
SEOUL -- South Korean police are pushing for an indictment of music tycoon Bang Si-Hyuk, chairperson of the agency behind K-pop supergroup BTS, over alleged investor fraud.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency referred Bang to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office on Thursday, asking him to be indicted for violating the capital markets act, according to the police agency and the prosecutor's office. Police have been investigating Bang, the chairperson of Hybe, over allegations that he misled investors by indicating Hybe had no immediate plans to go public.
