US plans to sanction another bank
ASHEVILLE -- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the Trump administration plans to impose sanctions on another bank this week in effort to clamp down on Iran transactions.
Bessent spoke with The Associated Press on Sunday ahead of Group of 20 meetings in Asheville, North Carolina, where he will meet individually with his counterparts from the world's major and developing economies to encourage participation in the economic isolation of Iran.

Karina becomes Pacific hurricane
MIAMI -- Hurricane Karina has formed in the Pacific Ocean, but poses no immediate threat to land. The National Hurricane Center says Karina gained hurricane status on Sunday and is expected to strengthen and become a major hurricane within a day or so.
Karina currently has top sustained winds of 80 mph. It's located about 880 miles west-southwest of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula.
Google changes lake name for US users
Google says it has updated its maps application to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America" for users in the United States. The global technology giant says the move reflects a recent order by President Donald Trump that changed the name of the lake amid an escalating trade war with Canada.
Google said in a blog post Saturday that the decision was based on its practice of using names assigned by the United States Geographic Names Information System, also known as GNIS.

Death toll rises to 38 in Russian strike
KYIV -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the death toll from a Russian strike on a warehouse west of Kyiv has risen to 38, with four people still missing.
Authorities also said 52 people were injured in what was the deadliest attack this year in the war. The strike on Friday night, on a facility that Ukrainian officials said was storing ammunition, sparked massive explosions and fires that swept through nearby homes and buildings.

One dead, 5 hurt in shooting at rave
GENEVA -- A shooting at a rave in the northern Swiss canton of Aargau left one person dead and five injured early Sunday, local police and media reported. Police said they are still looking for potentially more than one suspect.
Aargau cantonal police wrote earlier on X that a 22-year-old woman died of injuries at the scene. Four men and one woman, between 24 and 27 years old, were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe.

Voters reject bid to discuss EU entry
REYKJAVIK -- Iceland's voters rejected restarting negotiations to join the European Union in a referendum that pitted concerns about geopolitical stability against keeping national control of Iceland's prized fisheries, officials said Sunday.
Opponents defeated the measure by a margin of 52.8% to 47.2%, the National Electoral Commission said. The result puts the divisive issue to rest for now.
