Hurricane warning issued for Big Island
HONOLULU -- Forecasters say Tropical Storm Lala has formed in the Pacific Ocean and a hurricane warning has been issued for the Big Island of Hawaii.
The National Hurricane Center says the storm could become a hurricane and bring rain to the Hawaiian Islands starting late Friday as well as high winds and dangerous surf.

Suspect arrested in memorial vandalism
WASHINGTON -- A suspect has been arrested and will be charged in connection with the vandalism of the World War II Memorial on the National Mall.
Melissa L. Farris will be charged with "Depredation Against Property of the United States and Destruction of Veterans' Memorials," according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who announced the arrest on Friday on her X account. The Memorial, one of the most popular in Washington, was vandalized with bubbles filling a fountain and "Clean hands dirty $" written in red paint.

Reform UK's Farage wins special election
CLACTON-ON-SEA -- Nigel Farage has regained his seat in Parliament, beating a field of fringe candidates led by trash-can-wearing comic Count Binface in a special election boycotted by mainstream parties. They called it a farce.
Farage received 63% of Thursday's vote. Binface, a serial candidate, represented a protest vote and finished second in a field of 34 candidates with about 27%.

Kidnapped missionary from US is released
NIAMEY -- An American missionary kidnapped in Niger in October has been released. Missionary organization SIM International says Kevin Rideout is in good health in the care of U.S. officials.
He was kidnapped in Niamey on Oct. 21 by three armed individuals. No group has claimed responsibility.
