Man kills wife, daughter at a daycare
HOPKINS -- Police in Minnesota say a man who killed his wife and their 7-year-old daughter at a daycare is also suspected of killing a 78-year-old relative in a separate attack.
Police said Wednesday that the 41-year-old father fatally shot himself after stabbing his wife and the child at a home in Hopkins where she operated a daycare.

Indictment unsealed in Reiner killings
LOS ANGELES -- A Los Angeles County grand jury has indicted Nick Reiner on murder charges in the killing of his parents, actor Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
The indictment, unsealed Wednesday, includes an allegation that Reiner was lying in wait before attacking them. The couple was stabbed to death in their Brentwood home on December 14. Nick Reiner was arrested hours later and charged two days after the incident.

11 charged in scheme for green cards
WASHINGTON -- The Department of Justice has charged nearly a dozen people with participating in a multimillion-dollar scheme to help hundreds of Chinese nationals fraudulently obtain green cards through sham marriages to U.S. citizens.
Officials say American citizens were paid as much as $30,000 to enter into bogus marriages with immigrants seeking lawful permanent resident status as part of the scheme orchestrated from New York. The department describes it as one of the largest marriage fraud prosecutions in U.S. history.

10 militants, 3 civilians killed
ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani security forces have clashed with militants in the country's insurgency-hit southwestern province of Balochistan, killing 10 insurgents.
Also on Wednesday, a botched car bomb detonated prematurely elsewhere in the province, killing three people at a nearby home and also eight militants who were rigging the explosives. The clashes were part of a government operation against what it calls members of "Fitna Al Hindustan," a term Pakistani authorities use for Baloch separatist groups that Islamabad alleges are backed by India.

US forces on track to complete pullout
BAGHDAD -- The U.S. military is on track to pull all its forces out of Iraq by the end of September, marking the end of a presence that started in 2003.
Washington and Baghdad agreed in 2024 to wind down operations against the Islamic State group. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi confirmed Sept. 30 as the final date for ending the military mission after meeting a visiting U.S. admiral.

Landslide kills seven, injures four
MUMBAI -- Heavy monsoon rains have triggered a landslide in Mumbai, killing at least seven people and injuring four others.
The landslide struck early Wednesday in the suburb of Ghatkopar, collapsing onto homes. Authorities launched a rescue operation, but narrow access lanes hampered efforts.
