White House dinner rescheduled for July

NEW YORK -- The White House Correspondents Association dinner has been rescheduled for July 24. The event was initially disrupted in April by an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.

Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondents' Association, announced the new date and emphasized enhanced safety measures and new access procedures.

Officer charged in beating caught on video

SHELBY -- A former North Carolina police officer has been charged with assault for a beating caught on a doorbell camera.

The beating occurred Friday in the city of Shelby. Karson Hyder turned himself in Monday and was released on bond. Warrants say Hyder was attempting to arrest 34-year-old Cherrie Moore on suspicion of breaking and entering when she allegedly assaulted him and ripped his uniform.

President defends US Ebola quarantine center

NAIROBI -- Kenya's president has defended the establishment by the U.S. of its own Ebola quarantine facility.

There were further protests on Tuesday after President William Ruto said the U.S. had a longstanding partnership with Kenya on health matters and that the quarantine facility at Laikipia Air Base was one of 24 facilities that had been established in the event of an Ebola outbreak.
