Weinstein's rape charge dropped
NEW YORK -- New York prosecutors have dropped a rape charge against Harvey Weinstein instead of trying the former movie mogul for a fourth time in the state.
The decision was announced Thursday after his accuser said she could not endure testifying again. Weinstein already stands convicted of another sexual felony in New York and others in California.

'Alligator Alcatraz' center has closed
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced the closure of the temporary immigration center known as "Alligator Alcatraz." DeSantis said Thursday that about 21,000 people were deported through the center.
Federal officials say they no longer need the extra capacity to handle detention and deportation because they have more permanent facilities. Immigration advocates criticized the center for unsafe and inhumane conditions.

North Korea's Kim watches weapons tests
SEOUL -- North Korea says leader Kim Jong Un has observed major weapons tests and called for bolstering the military's "deadly and destructive offensive posture."
The Korean Central News Agency said Friday the tests watched by Kim the previous day were meant to evaluate the power of a "special mission" missile warhead, an upgraded multiple rocket launch system and the hit accuracy of shells.

7.2-magnitude quake strikes off north coast
TOKYO -- A powerful earthquake has struck off Japan's northern coast but there was no danger of a tsunami, the country's meteorological agency said.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.2, and struck off the eastern coast of Iwate. Several people were reported to have injuries.
