After losing to Michigan 24-15 on Saturday, Penn State coach James Franklin said, “We’ve got to do a better job of calling a game to allow our quarterback to get into rhythm.”
A day later, Franklin relieved offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich of his duties.
The Centre Daily Times reported Sunday afternoon that the change, effective immediately, had been made.
Penn State confirmed it an hour later.
Yurcich spent three seasons on the Nittany Lions’ staff.
This year was his first in calling the game from the press box.
In Penn State’s two losses this year, against Michigan and Ohio State, the Lions converted just five-of-30 third-down opportunities.
Franklin said Sunday Ja’Juan Seider and Ty Howle will share interim offensive coordinator responsibilities for the remainder of the season.
“We thank Mike for his contributions over the last three years but feel it is in our program’s best interest to make a change at this time,” Franklin said. “We wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future.”
