WTAJ morning anchor Maggie Smolka has been named co-anchor of WTAJ's evening newscasts.
Smolka has been at WTAJ since July 2017 and has served as morning anchor since October 2018.
In addition to anchoring the morning show, she is a reporter.
"I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue my career at WTAJ as the evening anchor," said Smolka, who joins Matt Alvarez in her new role. "I look forward to not only bringing viewers the news every night, but also continuing to tell stories about people making a difference in our community."
Smolka grew up in Pennsylvania, but also lived in Florida and California. She started her journalism training at Emerson College in Boston.
"Maggie Smolka possesses something many journalists simply don't have -- a thirst for telling stories that impact you, your family or neighbors," Steven Shaw, WTAJ news director, said. "Maggie is a genuinely nice person with a desire to share people's stories with others.
"It is a positive for this community to have Maggie in this new role but also continue to see her feature people and showcase what they have to tell," said Phil Dubrow, WTAJ vice president and general manager.
