Snyder will join embarrassing Hall of Fame

By Paul Newberry The Associated Press Welcome, Dan Snyder, to the Owners Hall of Infamy. You’ll feel right at home with this band of scoundrels, incompetents and reprobates — all of whom proved that being the richest guy in the room does not make you the wisest. After running the Washington Racist Nickname-slash-Football Team-slash-Commanders into the ground over the last two-plus decades, Snyder is exiting the NFL with a $6 billion consolation prize. Hard to call him a loser in this sordid affair given all those zeros on the check, but it doesn’t erase his legacy as one ...

Mailbag

Sanderson should write own ticket I read Todd Irwin’s recent column about Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson. It is a good one, and I couldn’t agree more with Irwin. Sanderson really is the only current Penn State coach who should get what he wants. I wanted them to do the right things to keep Micah Shrewsberry. However, he was only in Happy Valley for two years. If Sanderson is not the highest paid wrestling coach in the country, there is something wrong. I would hope and would like to see athletic director Pat Kraft be proactive rather than reactive with ...

In baseball, unfortunately, money does all the talking

By Bill Contz For the Mirror Imagine, if you will, an NFL team that featured both the LA Rams’ Matthew Stafford and his outrageous $62 million salary with Denver’s Russell Wilson and his equally appalling $57 million annual compensation backing him up. While we’re at it, let’s have these supremely compensated signal callers toss spirals to either (or both) the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill or the Raiders’ Davante Adams, both of whom now earn north of $28 million annually. If NBA basketball is your game, how about a backcourt featuring the Warriors’ Steph Curry ($48 ...

When will Tiger making the cut be worth it again?

By Paul Newberry The Associated Press AUGUSTA, Ga. — For Tiger Woods, it’s come to this. He’s no longer a factor at the top of the leaderboard. Instead, the golfer who provided some of the game’s most electrifying moments can be found plodding along at the cut line, his primary goal simply to make it to the weekend. He’s assured of returning to Augusta National on Saturday morning, but only because stormy weather forced a suspension of the second round while Woods was still on the course. When he returns, Woods won’t be focused on Brooks Koepka, who’s 14 shots ...

Drenning’s love for BG not mutual

While not officially informed after 10 years on the staff, I assume I am a recently fired assistant coach of the Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School boys basketball team. After the shock of the March 15 firing of Chris Drenning, I have experienced many different emotions and lost many hours of sleep wondering why. I initially wanted to combatively and aggressively defend the most caring and hardest working coach I have ever known at this level — and I still do. After discussing my spiteful strategy to inform the public of the truth and expose the unaccountable dictators in the ...

FAU ride flashes memories

By Byron Lasser For the Mirror This year’s NCAA Tournament brought back many great memories and comparisons between two college men’s basketball teams I have followed. Back in 1991, Saint Francis University was led by coach Jim Baron, who was in his first head coaching position. After four years, Baron led the team to its first NCAA Tournament bid with a tremendous group of unselfish players, led by Mike Iuzzolino and Joe Anderson. Early in the season, there was never a problem getting tickets or a parking place. But that year the better they played, the more people ...
