Sanderson should write own ticket
I read Todd Irwin's recent column about Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson.
It is a good one, and I couldn't agree more with Irwin.
Sanderson really is the only current Penn State coach who should get what he wants.
I wanted them to do the right things to keep Micah Shrewsberry. However, he was only in Happy Valley for two years.
If Sanderson is not the highest paid wrestling coach in the country, there is something wrong.
I would hope and would like to see athletic director Pat Kraft be proactive rather than reactive with Sanderson and what his wants and needs are for his program.
I'm not familiar with the wrestling facilities at Penn State, but they should be the premier ones in the country that would cause recruits to immediately fall in love with Penn State wrestling.

PSU must find sustained success
Penn State basketball has historically been a "once every 10 years" kind of program.
Whether senior players graduate, underclassmen transfer, or coaches move/retire, we can't seem to keep it together.
When is the last time, if ever, we were in the NCAA two years in a row?
My freshman year -- 1966 -- we almost had two years. Carver Clinton was our star. He sort of held Bill Bradley and Princeton in 1965 and the 1966 team was on the cusp of making it in.
But that was a 32-team field, not 64-plus.

PA roots should help Rhoades
Micah Shrewsberry jumped ship to go to Notre Dame and probably his son will go with him.
Penn State men's basketball has become an albatross. History-wise, Penn State basketball was solid back in the 1952-54 era, but the Nittany Lions have lacked sustained success since then.
New coach Mike Rhoades from Virginia Commonwealth, I hope, will do a good job. It appears, based on his history, that he will.
But he has to rebuild this program. Give him two to three years. His motivation should help as he a Pennsylvania guy.
