Dragons, Vikings eliminated in the second round

District 6 wrestling

Central and Glendale advanced to the quarterfinals of the District 6 Class 2A Duals with wins in the first round, but they lost their next match.

Sixth-seeded Central edged 11th-seeded Bald Eagle Area, 35-31, in the first round at Huntingdon, but the Scarlet Dragons lost to third-seeded Huntingdon, 53-24.

Glendale beat Westmont Hilltop, 36-27, in its first match at Penns Valley, but the Vikings (15-6) then lost to the top-seeded Rams, 58-18. The 12-0 Rams will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday.

Central Cambria, seeded 12th, was supposed to wrestle West Branch at Philipsburg-Osceola, but the event was postponed to tonight.

Moshannon Valley’s match against Marion Center at Bishop McCort was postponed to this evening.

Central’s match against BEA came down to the last bout at 160 pounds. With the Scarlet Dragons hold a 32-31 lead, Central’s Kaden Horn earned a 12-6 decision over Kayson Tice to secure the team win. Earlier in the meet, Central’s Blair Miller edged Gage Gardner, 2-1, at 285.

“My guys overcame a lot of adversity tonight,” Central coach Dave Marko said. “We moved the lineup around and put some guys in tough situations and bumped up a weight. We are banged up coming out of a tough tournament at Bedford, but they fought through and picked up a nice win against a storied program.”

Central’s Nathan Morris (107), Joel Morris (127) and Bryer Mickel (133) had falls against BEA.

Against Huntingdon, Ty Matthews (107), Carsen Mowery (121), Joel Morris (127) and Mickel (152) accounted for all of Central’s points with falls. The Scarlet Dragons fell to 18-4, while the Bearcats improved to 18-3.

“We fought hard against a really good team,” Marko said. “I look forward to the team taking time to rest and heal as we head toward our last dual meet next Tuesday and then individual districts.”

Box scores for Glendale weren’t available by the Mirror’s reporting deadline.
