Tigers, Eagles swimmers ready for states

Three individuals and three relay teams from the area will compete in the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships this week.
Hollidaysburg will be sending Kaden Henderson, Margaret Bandstra and Addison Smith, along with two relay teams, and Tyrone will have a relay team compete at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg.
Henderson, a junior, will kick things off on Wednesday morning when he swims in the Class 3A boys 100-yard butterfly preliminaries. He is seeded 27th out of 32 competitors in the event based on his District 6 time of 51.80 seconds.
If he advances, the boys finals begin at 4:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Henderson will be back in action in the Class 3A 100 breaststroke, where he is seeded 12th with a district time of 56.91. His preliminary race will begin around 9 a.m. with the finals in the late afternoon.

The Class 2A events will be held on Friday and Saturday with Bandstra, a senior, taking part in two individual events and one relay, and Smith, a junior, competing in two relays and one individual event..
Bandstra will team with Smith, junior Jackie Bevan and senior Kiri Dougherty in the 2A girls 200 medley relay with the prelims at 11 a.m. Friday. The team is seeded 23rd with a time of 1:54.77.
Smith will then race in the 200 freestyle prelims a few minutes later Friday. Smith has the 31st best district time of 2:02.62.
Bandstra will then go in the 200 individual medley prelims at approximately 11:30 a.m. Friday. Her time of 2:16.39 has her seeded 20th.
At approximately noon Friday, the Hollidaysburg girls 200 freestyle relay team of Smith, Dougherty, Bevan and freshman Madalyn Brick will swim in the prelims, where it is ranked 31st with a time of 1:45.96.
If any of the four advance on Friday, the girls finals begin at 7 p.m.
Bandstra will then come back on Saturday around noon to compete in the 100 breaststroke, where she is seeded ninth in the 2A girls field with a time of 1:06.06.
Before she swims, Tyrone will compete in the Class 2A boys 400 freestyle relay prelims at approximately 9:10 a.m. Saturday. The team of seniors Cameron Gallagher and Lucas Bonsell, and sophomores Owen Dunklebarger and Patrick Van Kluenen, have a district time of 3:30.85 that is 32nd.
On Saturday, the 2A boys finals begin at 4:30 p.m. with the girls finals at 7.
