NBC falls short to Berlin
BERLIN — The Northern Bedford County High School softball team’s season reached an end on Friday with an 8-1 loss to top-seeded Berlin Brothersvalley in the District 5 Class 1A semifinals.
Mylee Mitchell struck out 13 batters for the Lady Panthers, who committed six errors.
The Lady Panthers, which finished the season at 12-8, got a two-out single from Callie Miller in the top of the first that scored Emilee Beach to account for the lone NBC run.
Elena Ritchey tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts for Berlin, which will play Meyersdale in the championship game Tuesday at Somerset Area High School. Ritchey and Callie Ritchey each had two hits and two RBIs, and Coral Prosser and Elsie Barna each contributed two hits.
Northern Bedford graduates three seniors in first baseman Tina Thomas, third baseman Kasey McElgin and another, Kaylee Ebersole, who missed the season due to an injury.
