McMonagle gives OW effort

TYRONE — It was a weekend of firsts for three wrestlers from the Mirror coverage area in the first Laurel Highlands Tournament on Saturday at Tyrone High School. Huntingdon wrestler and Williamsburg student Andrew McMonagle captured the 189-pound title by beating Bald Eagle Area’s Caleb Close, 6-3. Later, McMonagle was voted the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler by the coaches. It’s believed to be the first time a Williamsburg student has been voted the OW of any tournament. TYRONE — Nine wrestlers from the Mirror coverage area advanced to the semifinals of the first Laurel Highlands Championships on Friday at Tyrone High School. Tyrone advanced four to the semifinals in Logan Rumberger (127), Kyle Scott (172), Andrew Weaver (189) and Braden Ewing (285). Penn Cambria advanced three in Layton Munyon (121), Trent Hoover (152) and Nick Summerville (215). Slow start hinders Tyrone

CLEARFIELD — With Tyrone forfeiting three weight classes and Clearfield recording four pins and a technical fall, there wasn’t much drama in the first nine weight classes.
