Berkheimer selected as all-conference

ANNVILLE — Lebanon Valley College’s Darrian Berkheimer of Altoona was named All-Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Honorable Mention. Berkheimer is a member of the Flying Dutchmen women’s soccer team. Berkheimer earned her second career appearance on an all-conference team, as she received second-team recognition last season. This scholastic soccer season saw a number of firsts for area teams in the district and state playoffs. BG girls will play at Irwin Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic, the District 6 Class 1A girls soccer champion, will be playing WPIAL champion Freedom at Norwin High School in Irwin at noon on Saturday in the PIAA quarterfinals. The Lady Marauders defeated Karns City, 2-0, to advance while Freedom topped District 10 runner-up Mercer, 3-1. The winner of Saturday’s game will play in the PIAA semifinals on Tuesday against either WPIAL runner-up Riverview or WPIAL third-place finisher Springdale. Those two teams play at Plum at noon on Saturday.
