Williamsburg’s Bella Royer overcomes ACL injury

Athlete of the week achievement: Royer scored 14 points in a 56-28 win over Elk County Catholic in the PIAA Class 1A second round and then had 15 points in a 53-48 win over Bishop Carroll in the state quarterfinals.
Season update: Royer is averaging more than 9 points per game for the Lady Pirates, who will play Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy in the PIAA semifinals tonight.
Coach Angela Detwiler’s quote: “I’ve helped coach Bella since she was 5 years old, and her work ethic has always been second to none. She returned in January from an ACL injury. For her to be playing at this level in March is a testament to how much time she put in this offseason to get back on the court. She is one of the few players that can play all five positions. She has been a huge part of our postseason success.”

Proudest athletic achievement: “Coming back from a major injury and playing with my team again. I’ve always wanted to be able to share the court with my sister. It means so much to me to play with my sister and this team.”
How I got my start in basketball: “I always went to my sister’s practices at a young age.”
Future goal: “Continue to play for the Lady Pirates while maintaining high honors in my academics. Go to college and possibly play basketball, but most importantly, just enjoy life and be happy.”
