The Associated Press Conference realignment has widened the recruiting footprint for Power Five college football programs long before many teams open play in their new league homes. Oklahoma and Texas accepted invitations to join the Southeastern Conference back in 2021 and programs have been adjusting ever since. Returning starter: There isn’t one, but within a week of training camp opening, James Franklin confirmed Drew Allar has been getting the majority of first-team reps, solidifying the obvious – that last year’s backup will be this year’s starter. Running backs (Seventh in a series of Penn State position previews.) Returning starters: Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen were an incredible tandem as true freshmen, combining for nearly 2,000 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns. Singleton went for 1,061 yards and Allen 867. Allen also caught 20 passes, Singleton 11. Key losses: There really aren’t any. Lions trio gets on new list UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State sophomore linebacker Abdul Carter, junior offensive lineman Olumuyiwa Fashanu and junior defensive end Chop Robinson were named to the Lombardi Award watch list on Tuesday. The Lombardi Award is presented annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame head coach Vince Lombardi in addition to outstanding performance and ability. The award qualifications also include linebackers who line up within five yards of the line of scrimmage.

Linebackers (Sixth in a series of Penn State position previews.) Returning starters: All three LBs are back in Abdul Carter, Curtis Jacobs, and Tyler Elsdon. Much like a lot of the defense, there is a lot of experience, and partly why the defense is so highly regarded in the preseason. Key losses: Jonathan Sutherland and Charlie Katshir both graduated, but Sutherland spent most of his career as a safety. Katshir appeared in just six games last year. Otherwise, everyone is back.
