MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The search for the No. 1 receiver since KeAndre Lambert-Smith left Penn State in the spring seems to be over. At least for the time being, after Trey Wallace exploded for his best performance yet for his career. By Neil Rudel nrudel@altoonamirror.com I think it’s pretty simple: The Nittany Lions must make the new 12-team College Football Playoff in order to consider 2024 a success. And a 10-2 record should do that. Finishing 10-2 would likely land Penn State in the Top 12 and really the Lions have to ...

James Franklin, who has spent his Penn State tenure beating the teams he’s supposed to beat while losing most of the biggest games, needs at least one playoff win this year for the season to be considered a success. Simply making the playoff won’t be enough. Why? Because just about everyone already expects Penn State to make the playoffs. So, if all the ...

FBS teams must be aware of potential FCS upstarts

By Ralph D. Russo The Associated Press After a brisk Week 0 warmup, Week 1 of the college football season arrives with dozens of games tonight through Monday, including a few tasty matchups. No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 14 Clemson in Atlanta; No. 7 Notre Dame at No. 20 Texas A&M; No. 8 Penn State at West Virginia; No. 19 Miami at Florida; and No. 13 LSU vs. No. 23 Southern California on Sunday night in Las Vegas are among the highlights. There is also a lot of filler on this slate. A total of 59 games this weekend will be FBS-FCS matchups. Add in the two played last week and 61 ...
