Steelers sign tight end to one-year contract

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed tight end Jaheim Bell to a one-year contract on Monday.

Bell was previously signed to the Steelers’ practice squad near the end of the 2025 season.

Bell was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He appeared in 15 games for the Patriots, with two receptions for 20 yards.

Bell also spent time on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad last year.

He played college football at South Carolina for three seasons, before transferring to Florida State for his final season. During his college career, he appeared in 38 games and had 95 receptions for 1,260 yards and nine touchdowns. He also had four rushing touchdowns.

Patience wearing thin?

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers might be starting to get frustrated with the lack of a decision by veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac wrote on Monday that the Steelers have watched two “expected” deadlines for Rodgers come and go, and they’ll begin organized team activities in two weeks on May 18.

The Steelers waited patiently for Rodgers to make a decision last year, and he eventually signed with the team before minicamp on June 5 and led Pittsburgh to an AFC North Division title and a playoff game.

But, according to Dulac, the Steelers might not be as lenient this season.

The Steelers currently have veteran backup Mason Rudolph, second-year player Will Howard and rookie third-round draft pick Drew Allar in their quarterback room.

Ex-Steeler with Ravens

BALTIMORE — The Ravens added veteran competition for the No. 3 quarterback spot with the signing of Skylar Thompson, the team announced Monday.

Thompson, 28, is a four-year veteran who previously played for the Miami Dolphins and spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A seventh-round pick in 2022, Thompson played in 10 games and made three starts with the Dolphins, most recently in 2024. He spent most of last season on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. The Ravens have Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley as their top two quarterbacks.

Starting at $2.99/week.
