Steelers fans to wait on Rodgers once again

With NFL free agency set to begin on Monday, it appears the Pittsburgh Steelers will be waiting on an Aaron Rodgers decision again this year.
Rodgers, the Steelers’ starting quarterback in 2025, is currently a free agent and hasn’t committed to signing with any team yet. That was one topic he discussed when he made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN Wednesday.
“I want to say that anybody on here who’s expecting me to make a big decision, turn it off now,” Rodgers said, addressing the show’s viewers. “… I’ve talked to (Steelers new coach) Mike (McCarthy), I’ve talked to (general manager) Omar (Khan). There’s been no deadline that’s been put in front of me, no contract or offer or anything that I’m having to debate between. I’m a free agent, and again, I’m enjoying my time with my wife and enjoying this part of the offseason.”
It seemed as though the Steelers would want Rodgers, who turned 42 in December, to make a decision before free agency begins, when quarterbacks such as Malik Willis and Kyler Murray become available, but it looks as though even the Steelers aren’t in a hurry.
“There hasn’t been any deadline set on me,” said Rogers, who waited until June last year to sign with the Steelers. “There hasn’t been any contract floated in front of me. … I’m interested in what the conversations will be, but there hasn’t been any progression when it comes to that.”
Rodgers also backed the Steelers’ hiring of his former coach in Green Bay, McCarthy, saying the Pittsburgh native “literally bleeds black and gold and loves the city with all his heart.”
“I don’t think you can do better at this time in this franchise’s history bringing in a guy like Mike McCarthy,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP, also continued his praise of quarterback Will Howard, the Steelers’ sixth-round draft pick last year out of Ohio State who didn’t see real game action during his rookie season.
“I’m a big Will Howard fan, not just a fan as a human, but a believer as a player,” Rodgers said. “And when his time comes, he’s going to be more than capable of being, not just a consistent starter, but a guy who can stick in the league for a long, long time.”
Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season for the 10-7 Steelers, who lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Houston Texans.
