Seminoles hold off Pitt comeback bid
ACC Men
PITTSBURGH — The Pitt Panthers men’s basketball team overcame a 24-point deficit Wednesday night, but came up short in a 75-74 loss to Florida State in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchcup.
The Panthers (11-18) got two 3-pointers from Damarco Minor in the final 10 seconds of the game to make the Seminoles (15-14) nervous, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
Barry Dunning Jr. had a season-high 26 points, while Minor had his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 assists.
Lajae Jones and Chauncey Wiggins each scored 18 points for the Seminoles, who led 46-30 at halftime.
Pitt is now 4-13 in the ACC while the Seminoles improved to 9-8. Florida State started the conference season with an 0-5 record before going on its current run.
The Panthers close out the regular season Saturday at Syracuse, while Florida State will finish at home against SMU.
The top 15 teams out of 18 teams will make the ACC Tournament, which is set to begin next Tuesday. The Panthers are currently tied with Notre Dame for 15th place in the standings.
Pitt will need to defeat the Orangemen on Saturday to get in to the ACC postseason tournament. The Panthers hold the tiebreaker with Notre Dame. Pitt lost at home to Syracuse, 83-72, on Jan. 10.
