Ex-Pirate Parker elected to Hall of Fame

DALLAS — Dave Parker and Dick Allen were elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame on Sunday by the classic era committee. Parker received 14 of 16 votes and Allen got 13. A vote of 75% or more was needed for election. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 27 along with players voted in by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, whose balloting will be announced on Jan. 21. Pirates bring in help for pitching coach

The Associated Press PITTSBURGH — Brent Strom didn’t want his lengthy coaching career to end on a sour note after Arizona dismissed the longtime pitching guru in October. A chance to write a happier ending awaits in Pittsburgh. The Pirates hired Strom as assistant pitching coach on Thursday. The Associated Press PHOENIX — National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes was elected to the Major League Baseball Players’ Association eight-man executive subcommittee on Wednesday just six months after his big league debut.
