Texas player Adrian Rodriguez hits for cycle in victory

OMAHA, Neb. — Adrian Rodriguez hit for the cycle and drove in seven runs, Ruger Riojas pitched six strong innings and the Longhorns knocked Alabama out of the College World Series with a 14-2 victory Monday.
Texas (46-14) plays another elimination game today against Georgia. The Crimson Tide (42-21) went two-and-out in their first CWS appearance since 1999.
Rodriguez and the Longhorns cranked up their offense two days after Georgia’s Joey Volchko struck them out 15 times in a 7-1 loss.
The sophomore shortstop had a two-run double in the first inning, a two-run triple in the second, a single in the fifth and a two-run homer in the sixth. For good measure, he hit an RBI double in the eighth.
Oklahoma wins
Jaxon Willits and Brendan Brock homered to help Oklahoma get out to an early lead, and closer Jackson Cleveland worked out of trouble late as the Sooners held on to beat Georgia 4-3 on Monday night.
Oklahoma (40-22) took control of Bracket 2 and will play Wednesday against the winner of a Tuesday elimination game between Georgia and Texas. The Bulldogs (52-13) lost for the first time in 10 games and had won 20 of their previous 21.
Daniel Jackson’s 32nd homer of the season off OU starter Xander Mercurius (1-2) pulled Georgia within 4-3 in the eighth inning.
