Sports at a glance

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The world’s tallest college basketball player is on the move.

Florida’s Olivier Rioux, a 7-foot-9 center from Canada and the most popular athlete on campus, says he is entering the transfer portal. The portal officially opens April 7.

Rioux played sparingly in two years with the Gators. He played 15 total minutes, finishing with seven, six rebounds and an assist.

Rioux is 2 inches taller than former NBA giants Gheorghe Muresan and Manute Bol, and 3 inches taller than popular big men Yao Ming, Tacko Fall and Shawn Bradley.

He set a Guinness World Record as the world’s tallest teen before he stepped foot on campus. Now 20, he’s looking for a chance to play more as a sophomore.

Portugal tops US in friendly

ATLANTA — Francisco Trincao scored in the 37th minute, Joao Felix added a goal in the 59th and Portugal beat the United States 2-0 in a friendly to deal the Americans their eighth consecutive defeat against European opponents.

U.S. star Christian Pulisic was moved from a wing to the top of the attack but failed to convert a pair of good scoring chances. Pulisic remained scoreless in eight national team games dating to November 2024 and also is scoreless in 12 games with AC Milan since Dec. 28.

Preparing to host the World Cup, the U.S. has been outscored 22-6 during its losing streak against Europe.
