Ken Clay, who won World Series championships with the New York Yankees in 1977-78 to highlight his five-year major league career, has died at the age of 71.

The executive medical director for a medical facility in Lynchburg, Virginia, said Clay died Thursday at home in Lynchburg. Clay’s cause of death was related to heart and kidney issues.

Clay made 111 appearances in the majors and was 10-24 with three saves and a 4.68 ERA. He had a run of legal problems after his playing career ended.

He was once sentenced to one year in a Virginia jail for stealing $550 from the car dealership where he worked.

Texas women defeat U-M

FORT WORTH, Texas — Madison Booker had 19 points and seven rebounds, fifth-year senior guard Rori Harmon added 13 assists and Texas is going to the women’s Final Four for the second year in a row.

Justice Carlton added 15 points in the Longhorns’ 77-41 rout over Michigan in the Fort Worth Regional 3 championship game Monday night.

The Longhorns led by as many as 40 points in the only regional final matching the top two seeds.

Top-seeded Texas is 35-3 and going to its fifth Final Four overall. The Horns play 35-1 UCLA on Friday in Phoenix. Olivia Olson and Mila Holloway had 11 points for 28-7 Michigan.
