Mountain Lions take care of Carlisle in three sets

The Altoona Area High School boys volleyball team improved to 2-5 Thursday night, thanks to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 win over Carlisle played at the AAHS Fieldhouse.

The Mountain Lions got nine assists from Caleb Terza to go with eight aces from Logan Coldwell, seven digs from Parker Huey-Kish, seven digs from Colson Greenleaf, and Max Coon with 10 service points and 12 assists.

Tigers top Eagles

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Hollidaysburg lost just two games in improving to 14-0 with a 5-0 win over Tyrone in high school boys tennis.

Garrett Bouchard and Felix Xu won in singles action for the Tigers, and Michael Waibel and Aamir Azad, and William Zhu and Stanley Zheng won in doubles play. All six Hollidaysburg players were honored on senior day.

SINGLES: 1, Bouchard, H, def. Harris, 6-0, 6-0; 2, Xu, H, def. Mengel, 6-0, 6-0; 3, Aryal, H, won by forfeit.

Juniata has new AD

HUNTINGDON — The Juniata College athletic department recently announced the hiring of James S. “Jimmy” McCumber as its next Director of Athletics, following a nationwide search.

A former two-sport athlete at Vassar College with substantive experience in fundraising, athletic administration and compelling student-athlete outcomes, McCumber will assume his new role this summer.
