Hollidaysburg boys tennis will play State College for District 6 team title

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Hollidaysburg used two wins in singles action and one in doubles play to knock off rival Altoona, 3-2, in District 6 Class 3A semifinal action of the team championships.

Garrett Bouchard and Felix Xu were victorious in singles play for the Golden Tigers, while the team of Aamir Azad and Jacob Sidney won in doubles.

“What an exciting high school tennis playoff match that came down to the final match,” Hollidaysburg coach Brian Denis said. “Hats off to Altoona — they are an outstanding team from top-to-bottom, and play a grueling schedule that only makes them better. They always bring out the best in us, and we were very fortunate to beat them three times this year in tight 3-2 matches.”

For the third-seeded Mountain Lions, Owen Wasovich claimed a singles win, while the doubles team of Aiden Aiken and Avery Lanzendorfer came out in front.

The second-seeded Tigers will travel to top-seed State College today for the district championship match scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m.

“With talented teams in 3A, it’s an accomplishment just to compete in the championship match again,” Denis said. “State College is undefeated and loaded at all five positions, but we will go in, play loose and show that we are a very formidable program as well.”
