Altoona Curve blanked by Chesapeake Baysox

The Altoona Curve offense went cold en route to a 7-0 loss to the Chesapeake Baysox at PNG Field Friday night in front of 3,387 fans.
It was another night where the Curve couldn't put it together offensively against Baysox pitchers.
"Trey Gibson was really good," Altoona manager Andy Fox said. "He threw strikes, a lot of early contact, the ball was up, down, moved side to side. We just couldn't get anything going.
Gibson threw seven innings and struck out eight Curve hitters and allowed only two hits.
On the flipside, Chesapeake hitters scattered 13 hits across the ballpark against the Altoona pitching staff.
"Defensively, we try to minimize the mistakes and try to keep them at bay and not get too far ahead," Fox said.
The Curve were able to escape jams but gave up two runs apiece in each of the third, fourth and sixth innings before they allowed another run in the eighth.
"In games like this, you've got to take care of the ball," Fox said. "You've got to try to eliminate 90 feet and the more we do that, the better chance we have to stay in the game."
8 millionth fan
A dream came true for Kirk Pyle, who was the Curve's 8 millionth fan to walk through the gates at PNG Field Friday night.
He took home two season tickets for life, a parking spot, hats, jersey and a prize pack.
"My son and I come to a lot of games," Pyle said. "We were hoping this would happen and it did!''
The 8 million fans and counting through the gates at PNG Field is a testament to the longevity of the organization and its ability to bring people to the ballpark game after game.
"Having 8 million fans come through the ballpark is a very special thing," Altoona general manager Nate Bowen said. "It speaks to the support that Altoona and Blair County have had for the team since 1999."
Roster moves
Following Friday's game, outfielder Hudson Head was released from his contract by the Pirates.
Head was on the development list at the time of his release and had hit .116 on the season.
He joined the organization via trade from the Padres in 2021 when the Padres sent pitchers David Bednar, Drake Fellows and Omar Cruz as well as head to the Pirates for Joe Musgrove.
