Area trio contributing for SFU
LORETTO — Brooke Long, Vincent Franco and Dylan Andrews, members of the Saint Francis University track and field teams, recently competed at two meets, the Keystone Duals at Shippensburg University and the Jim Taylor Duals held at Susquehanna University.
The Red Flash men and women each won the team title at the Jim Taylor meet among 11 other teams.
Long, an Altoona graduate, won the triple jump with a mark of 11.18 meters. She joined up with Paige Drake, Olivia Renk and Gabriella del Pielago to win the 400 meter relay.
Franco, a junior and a Hollidaysburg graduate, finished second in the hammer throw with a personal record best mark of 54.24 meters.
In the Keystone Challenge, Andrews, a Bellwood-Antis graduate, placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.20 meters. Long finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.30 meters.
Brunner shines
Aurielle Brunner had a strong showing for the women’s track and field team at Chatham University.
A graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle, Brunner, a senior, won the long jump with a mark of 5.71 meters and the triple jump with a mark of 11.71 meters.
Both distances rank first in the Presidents Athletic Conference and second in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
History made
The Penn State Altoona women’s golf program has partnered with six other Division III teams to found the Colonial Women’s Golf Conference, which was announced as having been officially approved for active NCAA Division III single-sport conference status.
Along with Babson College, Carlow University, Christopher Newport University, Kean University, Salisbury University, and Stockton University, the Lions will be part of a new Division III conference dedicated exclusively to women’s golf.
