Pearson on all-state softball first team
The Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association announced its all-state team on Tuesday.
The team was selected from approximately 400 nominations by high school coaches and media members statewide. A first team and second team was then voted on and chosen for each of the six classifications by the PaHSSBCA committee.
The Mirror’s core coverage area was best represented in Class 3A.
Tyrone’s Ella Pearson was named the first-team second baseman, and four Cambria Heights players made the second team — Paige Jones (pitcher), Ari Westrick (catcher), Karli Storm (second base) and Lexi Griak (designated player).
In Class 2A, Claysburg-Kimmel’s Haileigh Reed was selected as the second-team second baseman.
Rounding out the Mirror’s core coverage area’s selections in Class 1A were Glendale’s Lilley Vereshack (outfield, second team) and Kyla Campbell (utility, second team).

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Winning pitcher Matt Moyer and Landon Perry, who also doubled and drove in a run, combined on a one-hit shutout as Hollidaysburg defeated Somerset, 3-0, in Cambria County Legion action Tuesday.

Claysburg triumphs
CLAYSBURG — Parker Dibert drove in four runs, and Claysburg used a pair of four-run innings to hand Bedford its second loss in 15 games, both at the hands of Claysburg, in Cambria County Legion action.
Ben Dombrowsky pitched a complete game for Claysburg, allowing just two runs on five hits, and also drove in a pair of runs on two hits.
Andrew Lazor had two hits for Bedford.

All-Star game held
The Porter Division, consisting of teams from Bellwood, Hollidaysburg, Patton and Tyrone defeated the Stout Division consisting of teams from Altoona, 7-3, in a George B. Kelley Federation all-star game at Vets Field recently.
Gabe Herman of Barton’s Plumbing was named the MVP and had two hits for the Porter Division.
Prior to the game, Laurel Medical’s Trevor Manley won a home run derby.
