Weaver receives more honors

From Mirror reports

PITTSBURGH-Pitt senior defensive end Rashad Weaver garnered more national acclaim on Tuesday when he was named to the 26-player ESPN All-American Team.

This is the second national outlet to name Weaver an All-American. He was previously selected a first-team honoree by Pro Football Focus, which credited Weaver with a 90.0 pass-rush grade and 48 total quarterback pressures in just nine games played.

On the year, Weaver totaled 35 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He led the ACC in sacks and tackles for loss.

In addition to his All-America accolades, Weaver was also named first team All-ACC on Monday. He is a semifinalist for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award, which recognizes college football student-athletes from all divisions who have overcome injury or illness.

Weaver has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, which will air on the NFL Network on Saturday, Jan. 30, in Alabama. In other news, teammate and senior center Jimmy Morrissey is one of three finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy that is annually presented to the most outstanding player in college football who began his career as a walk-on student-athlete.

Morrissey recently completed his fourth season as Pitt’s starting center. He started all 47 games that he played for the Panthers and is considered one of the top center prospects by several media outlets in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Morrissey was recently named to the All-ACC Football Team for the third consecutive year. He is the first Pitt center to be a three-time All-ACC honoree. A native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., the La Salle College High School product joined Pitt as a walk-on before the 2016 season and redshirted.

Starting at $2.99/week.
