Lehman brings home the gold

Athlete of the week achievement: Lehman was the anchor on the Tyrone girls 1,600-meter relay team that won the PIAA Class 2A championship at Shippensburg University on Saturday. She also finished in ninth place in the Class 2A 300-meter hurdles at states.

Season update: Lehman finished with the best time in the area in the 300 hurdles at 45.41 seconds. The Tyrone 1,600 relay was second in the Mirror Track Honor Roll to Class 3A Altoona.

Coach Brad Kanuch’s quote: “Claire is a phenomenal athlete. She is our anchor on the 4-by-400 for a reason. When she got the baton on Saturday, I knew there was no way she was giving that up. Her drive, determination and attitude will set her up for a great future.”

Most influential person on my athletic career: “Kerry Naylor and Brad Kanuch. They both have shaped me into the competitor that I am today. I’ll never forget all of the lessons that they taught me in sports and in life. Most importantly, my parents, because without their love and support, I would have never made it as far in life as I have.”

Proudest athletic achievement: Making it into the state championships and winning the 4×400 relay with my teammates

How I got my start in track and field: “I ran track at a young age but later got back into it my junior year of high school.”

Future goal: To get a nursing degree
