US leads in medical bankruptcies

Another first for America First: We lead the world in medical bankruptcies, with 66.5 % of our population being affected. Way behind, at 19% is Canada, followed by Australia at 10% and the United Kingdom at a mere 8.2%. Thanks to MAGA’s One Big Beautiful Bill, look for this country’s lead to grow exponentially, which means “in a way that becomes quicker and quicker as something that increases becomes larger.” Jack Troy Huntingdon

Airport’s success is gift to region

Count the Altoona-Blair County Airport as an early holiday gift-giver to this region, as well as to potentially many more places far beyond. The gift it has provided — this month, well before the placing of traditional holiday gifts under Christmas trees — is the great news about increased passenger numbers already recorded plus predictions that those upbeat numbers will be topped in coming months and, hopefully, beyond. Besides the numbers themselves, though, part of the gift to people who fly into and out of the airport is added confidence that the local air service upon which ...

Fascism: ‘One Ring to rule them all’

What is fascism? Here are some definitions: An authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization. Even among founders who were not devout believers, there was agreement that liberty depends on virtue. John Adams wrote, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.” The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 ...

It’s time to see the real bogeymen

It’s incredible how some people agonize over falling behind financially then sabotage their own economic interests by electing Republicans. You know who you are. The GOP distracts you from the damage of its pro-business agenda on your standard of living with bogus issues that smother rational thought. They purposely enrage and frighten because they know nothing motivates voters like fear and anger. If you doubt it look what happened Nov. 4. They convince you bogeymen like trans people and gays threaten your children and America and only they can save everyone from these fiends. ...

Let’s lead the way in giving this season

Charities here and elsewhere across the United States might have experienced a mild “mood boost” in June when the Associated Press reported that, after an adjustment for inflation, charitable giving in 2024 was found to have been up by 3.3% over 2023. But just as the busy “make-or-break” 2025 holiday shopping season is about to kick into high gear, perhaps that less-than-robust mood boost of five months ago might have to be replaced by a sense of caution more significant than any existing a year earlier. Much volatility has impacted the business-industrial climate this year — ...
