History of William and Adam Holliday

As our community prepares for the nation’s 250th anniversary, I hope organizers will pause before repeating the familiar tale that William and Adam Holliday arrived here in 1768 and began homesteading on the site of present‑day Hollidaysburg. That story, though often retold, simply does not align with the historical record. Its roots trace back to U. J. Jones’ History of the Early Settlement of the Juniata Valley, where he describes the brothers arriving on the banks of the Beaverdam Branch and William dramatically driving a stake into the ground, predicting a future town. It’s ...

Fire for power continues to burn

The world has always been on fire is a way of stating that one power or one person wants what the other has. The president wishes to be the sole power in this country and the world. He is wasting money in the Caribbean to remove a dictator who stands in the way of America’s corporate oil wealth and other interests. Venezuela and Madura are not a threat to us. However, China’s expansion in the North China Sea is. China surrounded Taiwan to show its power. The president is wasting resources in the Caribbean that should be applied in the North China Sea to strengthen Japan’s and ...

Americans don’t want another war

Roughly 70% of Americans oppose war with Venezuela. Even many of Donald Trump’s loyal supporters do not want to be dragged into another open-ended conflict — especially one launched without Congressional authorization, in direct violation of the Constitution. Trump’s reckless misuse of the U.S. military would inevitably cost civilian lives, put American service members in harm’s way and further damage our already diminished credibility abroad. We’ve seen this movie before, and it never ends well. If protecting Americans from illicit drugs were truly the priority, why did ...

Restoring Gable’s building not worth it

To even remotely consider it prudent to spend millions of dollars to restore the Gable’s building is total insanity. Having personally worked in the building for 13 years, I have felt it sway from the earthquake that hit Richmond, Va., and even more so when an adjacent structure was torn down. No engineering study could ever convince me that the building is safe. The unfortunate reality of the situation is that the only sensible future for the property is to tear the Gable’s building and adjacent parking garage down. Officials must stand up for truth, justice

It’s time for accuracy, not lies. Let’s get the record straight. Alexi Pretti was not a domestic terrorist as some Trump supporters claim. Once again the Trump administration is spreading inaccurate information and lies about Pretti and his intent. He was a nurse and citizen who was only recording the ICE brutality that existed in Minneapolis and helping a lady who was being unfairly attacked by ICE. None of the lies being spewed by the Trump administration are accurate. Video and witness accounts verify that account. When are we as sane law-abiding citizens going to hold this ...

Verobish right fit for 79th District

The Blair County 2nd Amendment Coalition has endorsed candidate Andrea Verobish for the 79th District Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She is a staunch supporter of our U.S. Constitution and our 2nd Amendment Rights. Blair County 2nd Amendment Coalition works closely with GOA-Pennsylvania Dr. Val Finnell and Suk Finnell, Gun Owners of America, a renowned national gun owners organization that has also endorsed Verobish. We believe she is the right candidate who will stand united with “We the People” to uphold our values and principles, who will fight for our freedoms as well as ...
