James V. Bertocchi

James V. Bertocchi, 99, a longtime resident of Gallitzin, died Jan. 11, 2026, at Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg. He was born in Angolo, Italy, son of the late Giovanni and Emilla (Dovina) Bertocchi.
On May 15, 1954, he married Josephine M. Fucina at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Coupon. She preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2020.
Surviving are three sons: Joe (Patty) of Morris Plains, N.J., Jim of Raleigh, N.C., and Dave of State College; a daughter, Renee (Bruce) Grace of Lexington Ky.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Maria Hanlon of DuBois; and a brother, John (Mary) of Johnstown.
He was preceded in death by a son, John; daughter-in-law, Candi; a sister, Ann Julian; and a brother, Adolpho.
James enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking in the woods, reading, and was a member of the Gallitzin American Legion.
James was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Shaula.
He retired from Conrail in 1988, and was a member of Saint Demetrius Catholic Church in Gallitzin.

Friends may gather from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, with Father Albert Ledoux, celebrant. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery, Gallitzin.
