Marlene Marilyn (Riffle) Stone, 87, Altoona, died Thursday. She was born in Cokeville, Westmoreland County, the daughter of Dean J. and Ellen N. (Cowan) Riffle.
Surviving are sons, Vincent L. and Russell J. (Nancy); daughter, Rebecca D.; grandsons, Dr. Christopher R. Stone and Russell J. Jr.; granddaughter, Rachel Winters (Eric); great-grandson, Weston T. Winters; great-granddaughters, Emily Stone and Riley Faith Winters; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent L. Sr., on July 29, 2003; and a sister, Mary L. Amheiser.
A graduate of Altoona High School, Class of 1954, she was active for many years at the Blair County Historical Society, serving on the board as membership secretary, genealogist and collections chair, and received the Lifetime Award in 2008. Marlene was a founding member of the Blair County Genealogical Society, where she had served as vice president and treasurer.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed her activities as a member of the Friends of the Altoona Area Library and working at the library book sales. She was a historian and a collector of Altoona memorabilia.
Marlene was of the Methodist faith.
She and her family were previous residents of Lake George and Glens Falls, N.Y.
At Marlene’s request, there will be no services held.
Interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
