Helen Chalan Molnar

Helen Chalan Molnar, 96, a longtime resident of Tyrone, sadly left us on Nov. 27, 2024, at Garvey Manor in Hollidaysburg.
Born in South Fork, Pa., Helen dedicated her life to her family and community. She and her husband, John, built a successful business, Molnar’s Jewelry, and served the community for 48 years.
She was an active member of St. Mathew’s Catholic Church. As a cantor, she graced the sanctuary with her beautiful voice, leading the congregation in heartfelt song. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Helen had a passion for sewing, creating beautiful items cherished by many.
Family was the center of her life. She welcomed both family and friends into her home, where they could count on good conversation and wonderful meals, often ethnic dishes from the family’s Slavic and Hungarian heritage.
Helen was also a dynamic affiliate of the Tyrone Service League and held pivotal offices, including president.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John F. Molnar; siblings: Eva, Andy, Mary Ryko, John, Ann Gideos, Pete and Sophie Lewis; and son-in-law, Robert Grinarml.
Helen is survived by her children, Sandi Grinarml of Cambridge Spring, Pa., John (Vicki) Molnar of Tyrone, Carol (Mike) Wojda of Monticello, Ind., Robert (Kathy) Molnar of Aurora, Ind., Sue (Robyn) Bullman of Cambridge Spring, Pa., and Lisa Spangler of Tyrone; along with 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Eveyln Cotchen, Pearl Borlie, Frank (Jean) Chalan, Margaret Kowalski and Pauline (Nick) Minor.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone; and from noon until the Mass of Celebration at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, with Father Michael Pleva officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
