Taylor Township man arrested after fleeing police, violating parole

From Mirror staff reports

A Taylor Township man taken into custody after fleeing police was found to have an extradition warrant out of Michigan for parole violation.

James Arthur Firosz, 54, was arraigned June 26 by Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones on single felony counts of escape, flight to avoid apprehension and arrest prior to requisition, as well as single misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded to the Blair County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Freedom Township police were dispatched to the 7600 block area of Woodbury Pike in Taylor Township, Roaring Spring on June 25 for a report of an unconscious man. On scene, officers noted that Firosz’s eyes were red and his speech was slurred. When asked for identification, Firosz became unwilling to speak to officers and began walking away. After being told he was required to provide identification due to being under official investigation, Firosz fled downhill toward Wilson Avenue before tripping and being taken into custody, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

A search of Firosz yielded his state identification card, a wallet, about $61 in cash, a pink tin can containing two cut straws and a dime bag with a white powdered substance. Officers were then told that Firosz had an active full extradition warrant for a parole violation from Michigan’s department of corrections. Firosz’s active charges out of Michigan include absconding, malicious destruction of personal property and interfering with electronic communications, the police report states.

Firosz is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 9 in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger.

Starting at $3.83/week.
