School supplies sought

Family Resource Center’s annual Stuff the Bus campaign underway

The Family Resource Center of Blair County at United Way of the Southern Alleghenies has officially launched its annual Stuff the Bus back-to-school backpack registration and community school supply drive. The initiative runs through Aug. 7, helping ensure local students have the tools they need for a successful school year.

Community members, businesses and organizations are invited to support the effort by collecting school supplies for Blair County students. Organizations interested in serving as collection sites may contact the Family Resource Center at 814-317-5108, ext. 4005, to arrange for donation pick-up.

Most-needed items include clear and traditional backpacks, pencils, pencil cases, crayons, markers, child-friendly scissors, glue, glue sticks, lined notebooks (single-subject, three-subject, and five-subject), folders and binders. Monetary donations will be used to purchase supplies that are not received through community donations.

“Stuff the Bus is one of the many projects we offer to support area families,” said Denise Adams, director of the Family Resource Center of Blair County. “Helping children start the school year with the supplies they need sets them up for success. We are grateful for the generosity of our community and the many partners who make this program possible each year.”

Community collection sites include Altoona Area Public Library, CONTACT Altoona, Blair County Chamber of Commerce and the Family Resource Center of Blair County at United Way of the Southern Alleghenies.

Workplaces and organizations collecting supplies include the Academy Preschool and Early Education Center, Altoona Sunrise Rotary, M&T Bank, Blair County Chapter Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Ward Trucking and Veeder-Root. Beckwith Buses will be assisting with the supply pick-up.

Families wishing to register their children to receive a backpack and school supplies may complete an online registration form at www.unitedwaysa.org/STB2026 or they may call 814-317-5108, ext. 3008. Registration is open to all Blair County students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
