James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center to host housing rights event
The Van Zandt VA Medical Center, in collaboration with the Fair Housing Law Center and Summit Legal Aid, will host an educational event aimed at empowering veterans and their caregivers with the latest information on housing rights and protections under the Fair Housing Act.
The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center, second floor mini auditorium, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
The Fair Housing Act makes housing discrimination illegal. Laws protecting the right to fair and equal housing change frequently — this event ensures that veterans and caregivers have access to the most up-to-date information regarding their housing rights.
What the seminar will cover:
– What housing discrimination looks like
– Who is protected under fair housing laws
– What to do if your rights have been violated
– Where to file a fair housing claim
– Where to go to get help
– Why advocating for housing rights is important
Whether attendees are facing housing challenges or simply want to be informed, this session offers a practical guide to understanding the protections and resources available under current state and federal law.
