Former chef at Martinsburg care home facing fraud, theft charges
Feathers allegedly took $40,000 in fraudulent reimbursements
A former chef at The Village at Morrisons Cove faces charges after allegedly being paid more than $40,000 in fraudulent reimbursements.
Kenneth Art Feathers II, 60, of Altoona was arraigned June 5 before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on felony charges of theft, receiving stolen property, forgery and knowledge that property is the proceeds of an illegal act.
Bail was set at $50,000 unsecured. His preliminary hearing is slated for June 18 before Blattenberger.
According to court documents, officials from The Village went to Martinsburg Borough police in May about the fraud scheme.
Feathers, who worked as the chef at The Village at Morrisons Cove through a contract with Compass Group, allegedly submitted receipts to The Village for reimbursement, after those were already paid by The Village to Compass Group.
From 2020-26, The Village reimbursed Compass Group for Feathers’ expenses and then were also billed by Feathers, resulting in Feathers receiving about $41,530.
During the investigation, police learned that Feathers allegedly wrote to his supervisor, admitting that he had a gambling addiction and apologizing for his actions.
During an interview with police, Feathers allegedly admitted to submitting the receipts for reimbursement and admitted to his gambling addiction, the report states.
