A city man is behind bars with bail denied after allegedly attacking another man and threatening to kill him.
Michael David Reed Jr., 44, was arraigned Sunday before Magisterial District Judge Kevin Stoltz on felony charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and summary counts of stalking and harassment.
He was denied bail “due to the risk to public safety,” court documents state.
Altoona police responded to a home on 41st Street about 2 a.m. Sunday where the victim and a witness told officers that Reed tried to kill the victim with a box cutter.
The female witness said she and Reed had recently broken up and Reed had arrived at the home under the pretense of picking up his tools for work.
Reed allegedly entered the home to find the woman and the victim and went after the victim with a box cutter, trying to slice the man’s throat.
The victim and witness, who said Reed appeared to be under the influence, were able to disarm Reed, and he fled the scene before police arrived, the report states.
The victim had a cut to his lip and chest area, police reported.
Police recovered the bloody box cutter at the scene. The victim was treated at UPMC Altoona, the report states.
Police noted text messages between the witness and Reed were heated, and in one exchange, Reed tells the woman she is going to “burn.”
Reed faces a preliminary hearing May 6 before Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones.
