Lakemont Lions Club offers backyard egg hunt service
Order deadline for annual event is March 16
The Lakemont Lions Club will hold its eighth annual Easter Eggstravaganza Project, a service for local families that doubles as a club fundraiser over the Easter season.
For families registering for the service, Lakemont Lions Club members will place filled Easter eggs in the family yard the evening before, so that eggs are in place for children’s discovery on Easter morning. The plastic eggs will contain items such as small candy treats (those ordering can specify no peanuts or no chocolate), discount coupons to local businesses, coins and small prizes. Each egg will be taped to secure the contents.
Eggs can be ordered at 40 eggs for $25. Additional eggs are 15 for $10. Eggs can be ordered by calling Susan Edwards at 814-932-3216 or email sle0407@aol.com.
Send check or money order (made payable to Lakemont Lions Club) to 1639 Timberline Drive, Altoona, PA 16601. All orders must be received by Monday, March 16. After placing and paying for an order, families will be given a door hanger. By 8 p.m. Saturday, April 4, the family places the door hanger on the front door, pulls drapes, closes blinds and curtains and Lakemont Lions “bunnies” will do the rest.
Families having pets must be sure that they are secure. Any pet droppings must be removed from the yard. If not picked up before team arrival, the delivery may be canceled without refund.
For families residing in apartments or having very small yards, egg orders can be picked up for self-scattering or hiding as the family wishes. Such orders can be picked up between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Monday,
March 30, at the Lakemont Firehall, 312 Lotz Ave., Altoona (across from St. John’s Church), and must also be ordered before March 16.
Lakemont Lions Club serves the local community through activities related to the eight key Lions project priorities of childhood cancer, diabetes, disaster relief, environment, humanitarian, hunger, vision and youth. The Lakemont club also conducts activities benefiting veterans, delivers holiday flowers to shut-ins and many other activities. The club collects used eyeglasses as part of the Lions Recycle for Sight program, providing eyeglasses to people in third-world countries. Lions Club International Foundation provides monetary assistance across the globe in support of persons affected by disasters.
Lakemont Lions welcomes new members. Information on joining Lakemont Lions Club is available by calling club President Mike O’Neill at 814-615-3538.
